Class Assignments:
 - Exercise 1: A True Place From Your Own Life
 
 - Exercise 2: Responding to Context: A Study of Site-Specific Design
 
 - Exercise 3: Establishing Longevity: A Study of Room Relationships
 
 - Exercise 4: Achieving Full Synthesis: Analyzing a Beautiful Place
 
 - Exercise 5: Establishing Vitality: Making Integral Ornament
 
 
 
Grading:
 - Grading will be based on the five exercise described above,
     assigned every two weeks
 
 - There is no midterm or final examination for this class
 
 - At the end of class, you will hand in a carefully bound notebook,
     no larger than 8.5x11 inches that will include the following:
 
 
  - Exercises 1-4 complete with grading remarks from GTF’s
 
  - Exercise 5, ready to be graded
 
  - Class Notes
 
 
 - Notebooks will be available starting on Friday morning of Final
     Exam Week and will remain available for pick-up through the first two
     weeks of Winter Term 2005 in the hallway outside of the Department of
     Architecture office
 
 
Required Texts:
 - Synthesis 9 by William
     Kleinsasser, available at the UO Bookstore
 
 - The Nature of Order Volume 1: The Phenomenon of
     Life
     by Christopher Alexander, available on-line for a special class discount @
     http://www.patternlanguage.com/oregon201.htm
     IMORTANT: orders must be placed by midnight Oct. 8 in order to receive the
     discount and be shipped together. Texts will be distributed by the GTF’s
     after class, once the shipment arrives; photo ID required
